Results announcement of Samsung 2014 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards
16 March 2015, Hong Kong: The results of the “Samsung 2014 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” was announced at the Awards Presentation Ceremony today (16 March 2015) at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, International Olympic Committee Member and President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation), Hon. TSANG Tak-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau and Mr. Raymond LEE, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited gave an address at the Ceremony besides presenting awards to the winners. Other prestigious presenters of the “Hong Kong Sports Oscars” included Ms. CHAN Ah-king, Deputy Director General of the Publicity, Culture and Sports Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Ms. Michelle LI, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hon. MA Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Legislative Councillor (Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication). Government officials, guests from the sports and entertainment sectors also attended this glamorous event.
The Federation received a total of 120 nominations from 47 NSAs in this year’s Awards. Having gone through voting by the Judging Panel, the Sports Media, and the public, the results of the six categories were officially announced during the Ceremony.
Miss Sarah LEE Wai Sze, MH (Cycling), Hong Kong first ever athlete in winning two gold medals in the same Asian Games, got the highest votes among the eight athletes in the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” clinched again the “Samsung Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award” for the third consecutive years, making a breakeven record with another famous retired cyclist Mr. WONG Kam Po who was also awarded three times the highest accolade “Best of the Best Award”. Other “Hong Kong Sports Stars” Awardees included Mr. WU Siu Hong, MH (Bowling) who won the title for the sixth time; Miss NG On Yee, MH (Billiard) won the title for the fourth times; Miss WONG Ka Man (Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped – Table Tennis) and Mr. LEUNG Yuk Wing (Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled - Boccia) were also on the list for the second time; the three gold medallists of the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, Mr. SHEK Wai Hung (Gymnastics), Mr. LOK Kwan Hoi (Rowing) and Mr. CHENG Kwok Fai (Windsurfing) made their debuts among the Awardees.
The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Men's Sevens Team continued their outstanding performances in 2014 to win again the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport” for the sixth time in the past seven years. For the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event”, the Hong Kong Men’s Snooker Team and the Boccia BC4 Pairs Team of the Sports for Physically Disabled both won the title for the first time. The Federation congratulated all awardees and wished them every success in their future sporting endeavours.
The Federation would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Samsung Electronics H.K.
